Scottish Secretary Ian Murray has mentioned the UK-EU commerce deal will present “12 years of certainty and stability” for fishermen which comes after the Prime Minister hailed the settlement as a “win-win.”

British fishermen have slammed Sir Keir Starmer’s deal and the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation (SFF) has mentioned the commerce deal is a “horror present.”

Murray advised BBC Radio Scotland on Tuesday, “I don’t agree with that.

“It offers 12 years of certainty and stability for the business, it doesn’t change any of the deal that was put in place in 2019, which is 25% extra quotas for UK and Scottish trawlers and it offers vast entry, in fact to the brand new markets of the EU, when it comes to pushing away all that purple tape that was there earlier than.

“Not yet one more fish shall be taken out of Scottish waters by an EU trawler as a part of this deal and that gives that stability and certainty.”

He added, “I’ve been in enterprise earlier than and I would favor 12 years of stability and safety and certainty than an annual renegotiation that you could be or might not win.”
