A person has died after reviews of concern for an individual within the River Wandle. Emergency providers had been referred to as to the waterway in London Highway, Mitcham shortly earlier than 2.30pm on Thursday afternoon (September 18).

Police, fireplace and ambulances providers rushed to the scene the place he was sadly pronounced useless. Enquiries are ongoing and the river stays cordoned off.

The Met is but to verify the id of the person. A power spokesperson stated: “Police had been referred to as at 14:28hrs on Thursday, 18 September to London Highway, Mitcham following the priority for welfare of a person within the water.

“Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service and the London Hearth Brigade. Sadly, a person was pronounced useless on the scene.

“Enquiries are ongoing and a scene stays in place.”
